About The Position

The Director of Security plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Security Operations Department including the development of security policy and procedures, budgeting, staffing, scheduling, payroll and purchasing materials and equipment. Must have a sound working knowledge of the Gaming Compact signed between the Seneca Nation of Indians and New York State. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s Internal Control Standards in order to ensure the protection of guests, employees’ and company assets.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment.
  • High school diploma or its equivalency required. College degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Must have a thorough and sound working knowledge of the Seneca Nation and New York State Gaming Compact and Seneca Gaming Internal Controls Standards.
  • Ten (10) years of related experience with five (5) of years’ security experience in a Class III Gaming environment and at least three (3) years of management or supervisory experience is required.
  • Previous computer skills with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Must possess an understanding of legal ramifications and implications of various employee and customer actions.
  • Must possess ability to instill a sense of pride and personal responsibility in employees.
  • Must have proven customer service experience and must be able to work in an intense and fast paced environment where a high degree of concentration is necessary to perform the required job duties.
  • If required to drive for SGC business, must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to substantiate a safe driving record within the parameters acceptable to our liability insurance carrier.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to write Standard Operating Procedures, routine correspondence and to speak effectively to the public, employees and guests.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with internal and external customers.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Must maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast paced environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community if all situations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and implement Security Policies and Procedures and as well as Security Internal Control Standards.
  • Implement the protection and loss prevention philosophies of Senior Management.
  • As a department leader the Security Director may be asked to attend meetings and/or functions (property and community), which may occur anytime.
  • Provides leadership to employees by guiding the department, inclusive of labor, expense management, employee engagement and customer service.
  • Communicate regularly with the Shift Managers and assist them with departmental and personnel issues.
  • Exhibit sound decision making attribute, motivate employees and exhibit effective management skills in directing the Security Operations Department.
  • Ensure that the Security Department abides by all Internal Control Standards, Policies and Procedures during all shifts and is operated efficiently to ensure protection of assets, employees and customers.
  • Oversee that all shift forms, activity reports and shift payroll are completed in a timely manner and distributed to appropriate personnel.
  • Develops, mentors and trains enrolled Seneca Nation members for future senior management positions within the company.
  • Oversees departmental administrative matters and ensures HR is consulted as appropriate. Meets with staff on a regular basis and with entire department no less than 3 times per year.
  • Ensures effective recruitment, hiring, training, recognition, evaluation, coaching and discipline, terminations and other personnel related issues.
  • Responsible for ensuring the department adheres to all company policies and internal controls, including but not limited to Compact, Human Resources, TERO compliance guidelines and Purchasing.
  • Prepares the annual budget and monitors to ensure attainment of goals. Manages labor and scheduling to ensure adequate coverage at all times while minimizing overtime.
  • Liaise with other department/company management to ensure consistency and smooth flow of information, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a strong network of contacts throughout the industry to facilitate both formal and informal gathering of information.
  • Runs the department and design policies and training that result in exceptional customer service to all patrons. Maintains a professional work environment with supervisors, managers and staff.
  • Keeps abreast of industry trends, new technology and practices as they relate to his/her area(s) of responsibility.
  • Must complete all required SGC Training programs within nine (9) months from commencement of employment.
  • Attends all necessary meetings to stay informed; including company and community meetings.
  • Oversees an operation that is 24/7 and requires hours that can extend up to sixty (60) hours per week or more, and be inclusive of work weeks that consist of six (6) or seven (7) days. This individual is on-call and requires accessibility 24/7.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
