About The Position

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, Inc. (“PPGNY”) is seeking a forward-thinking, innovative and experienced security professional who can guide a dispersed organization that reports on sensitive issues. The Director of Security (Physical) will lead work as part of the Facilities and Security Team to optimal and inclusive physical security risk management practices for the complex environments in which it operates. This position will provide support and leadership across a wide range of areas including crisis and incident response, asset protection, programmatic work, travel safety and event security. The successful candidate will understand the threat landscape facing PPGNY and its supporters, or similar constituencies, and have a proven track record of enabling work in challenging operational contexts. They will continue to lead the organization towards best practices and further embed and promote a proactive security culture; collaborate with both internal and external security groups; and have experience in crisis management, operational security and training. The role will require travel around NYS, and occasional travel to other states as warranted. This position will be based in one of PPGNY’s administrative offices and will report to the Vice President of Facilities & Security. PPGNY is keen to consider applicants from communities who are under-represented in the security sector, even if they feel they only meet some of the qualifications. POSITION SUMMARY Leads and manages all physical security and life safety operations at PPGNY. Assess and integrate physical security operations, technology, and policy solutions to ensure the safety of employees, patients, clients, volunteers, guests, and property of PPGNY. Responsible for ensuring that PPGNY’s security vendors perform all required tasks in accordance with PPGNY policies, standards and security best practices. Represents PPGNY with all local law enforcement agencies. Performs job duties with tact and diplomacy.

Requirements

  • Education: A level of education that when combined with professional experience will demonstrate the capability to lead physical security at PPGNY. Candidates who have relevant academic degrees or security certifications are encouraged to apply, but this is not a requirement
  • Prior work experience: at least 5-years of security experience or related work
  • Working knowledge of processes related to security such as threat vulnerability site assessments, emergency response and crisis management
  • Experience managing physical security systems including video surveillance, access control, fire & intrusion monitoring
  • Intermediate to advanced level of skill in Microsoft Office products.
  • Travel around NYS required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and in a non-judgmental manner or attitude
  • Able to work within a team setting
  • Ability to read, write and do arithmetic
  • Good organizational knowledge with an excellent logical and analytical ability
  • Always ready to work under pressure with patience

Responsibilities

  • Manage and direct contract guard vendor and ensure that they are appropriately training and informed on the most recent security plans, threats, trends and related security processes.
  • In coordination with the relevant stakeholders, define, implement and review the global physical security standards and associated plans across all PPGNY real estate and programs.
  • Provide support as needed during outward facing events, including donor facing events, and elevated protest events/situations, assist with crisis situations when necessary.
  • Manages safety and security incidents around PPGNY, either in person or in overseeing Regional representatives.
  • Conduct physical SRAs and Vulnerability Assessments to identify gaps in the security program and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide comprehensive reports to document and communicate results of security reviews and audits.
  • Work closely with the PPGNY’s Information Security Team to provide cohesive security risk management frameworks within Departments across PPGNY.
  • Manage physical security technology systems, including working with outside vendors as needed to update firemware, software, etc, based on IT penetration testing and vulnerability scans.
  • Annual review of PPGNY Security Manual, policies and SOPs.
  • Travel to all PPGNY locations as needed, but no less than annually
  • Establish and manage the allocated budgets and financial resources effectively and efficiently
  • Design and deliver appropriate internal physical security training initiatives.
  • Identify third party specialist physical security vendors to enable provision of relevant and appropriate hostile environment training.
  • Seek out opportunities to provide equitable inclusive and scalable physical security and associated training across PPGNY.
  • Source and enable access to physical security related equipment and technology. Ensure appropriate asset tracking is in place.
  • Identify and manage outsourced vendors to ensure delivery of high quality and cost-effective services.
  • Prioritize and respond to emergent situations, analyze and take appropriate action which may include outsourcing the work
  • Provide ongoing support to the department leadership and any projects.
  • Work independently and within a team on special, nonrecurring and ongoing projects.
  • Works with department leadership in the implementation of projects including developing materials such as manuals, slide decks, and training tools.
