About The Position

Switchboard is seeking a Director of Security Operations on behalf of our client, Open Technology Solutions (OTS), to build and lead our security operations and incident response function. In this newly created role reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, you'll oversee a team of security professionals (with approximately 5 direct reports) and direct the architecture and engineering of OTS' security tooling and infrastructure. You'll serve as the escalation point on security matters, working directly with C-suite leadership to respond to and resolve critical incidents. This is a unique opportunity to architect and scale security programs and systems from the ground up for a technology organization serving the financial services sector. Requirements

  • Proven security operations leadership: 7+ years in information security with at least 3 years leading security operations, incident response, or SOC teams in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Hands-on technical expertise: Deep understanding of the security technology ecosystem including SIEM, EDR, vulnerability management, threat intelligence, and security orchestration platforms—you can still roll up your sleeves when needed
  • Executive presence and communication: Demonstrated ability to communicate technical security issues to C-level executives and board members, translating complex threats into business risk and actionable recommendations
  • Program-building experience: Track record of designing and implementing security operations programs, processes, and teams from the ground up or through significant transformation initiatives
  • Decisive crisis management: Proven ability to make high-stakes decisions quickly during active security incidents, balancing risk mitigation with business continuity
  • Collaborative leadership style: Natural ability to influence without authority, build consensus across teams, and develop strong working relationships with technical and business stakeholders
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security or equivalent experience; relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, GIAC, etc.) preferred
  • Open to travel: up to 10% travel for team collaboration, client engagement, and industry events

Nice To Haves

  • Industry-relevant background: Experience in regulated environments (financial services, banking, credit unions strongly preferred); MSP or consulting background highly valued for exposure to diverse security challenges and rapid implementation experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead security operations and incident response: Direct the day-to-day security operations function and serve as the primary escalation point for critical security incidents, making real-time tactical decisions to contain threats and minimize business impact
  • Build and scale security programs: Architect and implement security operations frameworks, processes, and runbooks from the ground up, establishing repeatable systems that can scale with organizational growth
  • Manage and develop the security team: Lead 11 security professionals (5 direct reports) through coaching, mentorship, and professional development while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture
  • Engineer security infrastructure: Oversee the selection, deployment, and optimization of security tools and technologies across the stack, ensuring seamless integration and maximum effectiveness of the security ecosystem
  • Executive incident management: Serve as the authoritative voice on security matters during critical incidents, briefing C-suite leadership with clear, actionable recommendations and coordinating cross-functional response efforts
  • Drive collaborative security strategy: Partner with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, application development, and business stakeholders to embed security throughout the organization and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Maintain security posture for financial services: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to credit unions and financial institutions, adapting security programs to meet evolving threats and compliance demands
