About The Position

The Director of Secondary Education Math is responsible for overseeing the development, review, and alignment of the Secondary curriculum and instruction in Mathematics. This role involves providing educational guidance, support, coaching, and leadership to administrators and teachers to ensure that the District's educational goals are met. The Director will also participate in the evaluation of administrators and is expected to model the core values and beliefs of the District's mission.

Requirements

  • Illinois Professional Education License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement through ISBE.
  • Minimum of five years teaching experience and previous administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of Secondary Mathematics state and national standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of secondary math development and interventions.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of progress monitoring including data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Model the core values and beliefs in the District's goals and mission.
  • Align work with the D300 Strategic Plan.
  • Develop department goals, tasks, and action items tied to the District Strategic Plan.
  • Provide curriculum leadership for alignment to national, state, and District learning standards.
  • Maintain a current understanding of state laws and curriculum requirements.
  • Use the District's online curriculum management system to maintain and update curriculum documents.
  • Ensure curriculum and instructional articulation between grade levels.
  • Collect and use data to guide instruction and programming.
  • Monitor fidelity of implementation of District supported programs.
  • Prepare a professional development plan for the division in consultation with the Director of Professional Development.
  • Implement an assessment plan for the division in collaboration with the Assessment department.
  • Oversee division area use of the district assessment platform.
  • Coordinate instructional materials adoptions under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
  • Disseminate division information and ensure consistent communication between buildings and grade levels.
  • Provide leadership and support to department representatives and division heads.
  • Collaborate with various departments and provide support as needed.
  • Oversee academic extracurricular activities such as math contests and field trips.
  • Update curriculum information resources annually.
  • Assist principals in recruiting and hiring new teachers.
  • Support implementation of Professional Learning Communities in the district.
  • Model and integrate modern instructional strategies.
  • Design and deliver professional development for all job groups.
  • Provide leadership for enrichment and intervention programs.
  • Communicate division programs and initiatives effectively.
  • Guide principals on best practices in teacher evaluation.
  • Participate in District job-alike committees and instructional leadership team meetings.
  • Assess and respond to the needs of district leadership in collaboration with the Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Math.
  • Attend or chair various meetings outside of the District and represent the District in partnerships and committees.
  • Develop and oversee the District budget for the division and research grant opportunities.
  • Attain proficiency in District-supported technology platforms and tools.
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Team and Superintendent Cabinet.
  • Attend School Board meetings as requested.
  • Participate in evening and weekend events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
