Open to employees who are permanent in the civil service title of Administrative Manager or the comparable civil service titles of Health Services Manager or Administrative Staff Analyst. The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the Department of Education and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene responsible for promoting the health of the 1.3 million school children enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, reproductive health services, health education referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment. OSH has been the provider of public health services for 100 years. DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO: - Act as principal advisor to the Medical Director on the development, execution, and monitoring of high-profile priority projects and programs. Support the Medical Director in the functioning of the Medical Unit and seek to identify key areas of opportunity, integration, innovation, and improvement across the unit, to help meet DFCH and agency goals and priorities. - Assist Medical Director with high-level budget responsibilities; preparing and modifying the program budget; developing program financial plans and cost reductions. Attend Leadership meetings, internal/external meeting with the Medical Director to provide a record of the discussion, decisions made, next steps and follow-up items, including distribution of follow-up materials to meeting participants as needed. - Exemplify leadership skills of effective communication, modeling, coaching, educating and support to foster quality supervision to subordinates on a regular basis. Arrange staff training and development to increase employees' areas of competence to ensure program expectations are met. - Coordinate with Administration and Operations on onboarding activities for Medical Unit and Administrative staff, including the management & tracking of Assets and Citytime enrollment. - - - Coordinate with Medical Director regarding the development, execution, and monitoring of contract and procurements for the Medical Unit. - Conduct complex analysis staffing, overseeing personnel actions, hiring and other related areas concerning the operation of the program. - Support and work closely with the administrative team to ensure meetings are scheduled and modified as needed to meet the needs of the Medical Unit. - Participate in cross divisional projects and initiatives, representing the Medical Unit on taskforces and workgroups. Represent the Medical Director in internal and external meetings as needed/requested. Coordinate with Supervising Physicians, Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Borough Offices, and other directors on all coordinating administrative issues as it relates to the goals and mandates of the Medical Unit. Provides direct oversight of administrative and college level staff assigned to coordinate regional support for doctors providing Citywide school-based services. Participate in emergency response initiatives affecting families and children, including participating in the Emergency Response Group (ERG). Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as needed basis.
