Job Overview The Director of Sales & Marketing (DOSM) is responsible for leading the property’s commercial strategy to meet and exceed revenue goals through strategic sales leadership, market development, and integrated marketing initiatives. This role develops new business, grows existing accounts, and builds strong demand channels across group and transient segments. The DOSM will play a critical leadership role in identifying and expanding group business opportunities within medical, pharmaceutical, and government-related market segments, while also driving performance in transient segments such as corporate/business travel, consortia, negotiated accounts, and preferred partnerships. This position oversees the hotel’s sales and marketing strategy and is responsible for coordinating internal teams and external partners including public relations, digital marketing, social media management, and third-party marketing agencies. The DOSM must also demonstrate strong capabilities in promotional marketing, experiential activations, and targeted email marketing campaigns, with Revinate experience strongly preferred. This leader will serve as a teacher and mentor to the on-property commercial team, developing their skills in prospecting, relationship building, strategic selling, and modern hospitality marketing practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 4+ years of hotel sales leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing both sales and marketing functions within a hotel environment.
  • Experience driving corporate and transient business travel segments.
  • Experience managing third-party marketing vendors and agency partners.
  • Strong knowledge of hospitality sales strategy and revenue management principles.
  • Ability to lead integrated marketing initiatives including digital, PR, and promotional marketing.
  • Experience with promotional and activation marketing programs.
  • Strong leadership and coaching capabilities with a focus on developing team performance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic hospitality environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and strategic planning abilities.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Must have dexterity/mobility to meet clients on and off premises, to tour property and attend functions, to climb stairs, and operate basic office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business, marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with medical, pharmaceutical, or government-related business segments is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with email marketing platforms and CRM systems (Revinate preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Leads the property sales and marketing strategy to meet or exceed revenue goals for rooms, meetings & events, and ancillary revenue streams.
  • Achieves a minimum of 90% of productivity goals and 100% of activity goals as established by management.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and accountability for the sales and marketing team to achieve property revenue objectives.
  • Develops market segmentation strategies to drive optimal business mix with emphasis on medical, pharmaceutical, government, corporate, and consortia transient segments.
  • Leads proactive sales initiatives including targeted sales calls, strategic prospecting, and relationship building.
  • Identifies and develops new accounts while expanding revenue opportunities with existing clients.
  • Maintains a strategic target account development plan to acquire high-value business across priority market segments.
  • Actively pursues competitor accounts through research, networking, and industry engagement.
  • Drives transient market share through corporate negotiated accounts, business travel partnerships, consortia relationships, and preferred travel programs.
  • Establishes market segment goals tied to transient revenue growth and share penetration.
  • Works closely with revenue management to optimize pricing strategies and business mix.
  • Leads the planning and execution of integrated marketing initiatives to support revenue generation and brand positioning.
  • Oversees email marketing campaigns, database marketing, and promotional outreach, with Revinate experience preferred.
  • Develops and executes promotional marketing programs, experiential activations, and partnership campaigns to drive hotel awareness and revenue.
  • Ensures all marketing efforts align with the hotel brand positioning and commercial objectives.
  • Manage relationships with external partners including: Public relations agencies Social media management firms Digital marketing partners Creative and promotional vendors
  • Ensure all partners are aligned with the hotel’s strategic goals and performance expectations.
  • Works collaboratively with revenue management to maximize profitability through strategic pricing and inventory management.
  • Negotiates room rates and event contracts in alignment with the hotel yield strategy.
  • Supports the hotel revenue strategy through disciplined account management and opportunity evaluation.
  • Maintains strong customer relationships through consistent communication and proactive service.
  • Develops customer profiles and utilizes CRM systems to maintain organized and actionable account data.
  • Ensures all inquiries and opportunities receive prompt and professional follow-up.
  • Maintains current knowledge of competitive landscape, market trends, and emerging demand drivers.
  • Identifies opportunities to capitalize on the hotel strengths and market positioning.
  • Leads and mentors the property commercial team to enhance sales effectiveness and marketing execution.
  • Provides coaching and training to develop team members’ skills in prospecting, client engagement, and strategic selling.
  • Establishes a culture of accountability, performance, and collaboration across the commercial organization and hotel.
  • Represents the hotel and Sage Hospitality with the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, and service orientation.
  • Maintains strong working relationships across all hotel departments to ensure overall operational success.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned or requested by management.
