About The Position

The Director of Safety is accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s occupational health and safety policies, programs, and training. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, leads safety audits and emergency planning, and partners with operations to foster a culture of safety across all sites.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with OSHA compliance, safety audits, and training.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Knowledge of general fabrication and manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and communicate company-wide safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations, and corporate insurance programs.
  • Design and deliver safety training programs for all employees and managers, including work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.
  • Identify company safety training needs and coordinate safety training programs.
  • Lead regular safety audits and facility inspections; document findings and oversee corrective actions.
  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Oversee investigation and reporting of workplace injuries, illnesses, and near misses; administer worker’s compensation program, including working with insurance carriers to reduce employee lost time.
  • Provide technical safety support and information to managers, supervisors, and employees.
  • Maintain written safety programs and policies; oversee documentation and record-keeping for compliance and audit readiness.
  • Develop annual company safety goals and objectives for the business plan.
  • Own the Emergency Action Plan and coordinate drills and readiness activities, act as Emergency Coordinator.
  • Chair the safety committee and facilitate cross-functional safety initiatives; serve as a member of the Safety Committee.
  • Promote safety and health awareness through company communication, including newsletters and specific training programs.
  • Understand and communicate Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations; monitor regulatory changes as they occur.
  • Review injury/illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up, as necessary.
  • Work with subcontractors to ensure proper safety documentation and reporting per contract requirements; participate in client prequalification process.
  • Assist Construction Development Manager with subcontract safety data tracking and setting up project safety standards.
  • Attend project kickoff and site safety meetings as required.
  • Provide regular safety performance reports to senior leadership.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites as required (up to 30% of the time).
  • Prompt and dependable attendance.
