The Director of Safety will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Visterra’s safety programs across all partner companies. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a culture of safety and risk prevention. The Director will work closely with operations leadership to reduce incidents, improve training, and maintain industry-leading safety standards specific to landscaping operations, including equipment use, chemical handling, and seasonal services.

  • Design and oversee company-wide safety programs tailored to landscaping operations, including equipment safety, chemical application protocols, and winter service hazards.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments across branches, job sites, and fleet operations.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for field crews and managers, covering topics such as mower and skid-steer operation, pesticide handling, and DOT compliance for vehicle fleets.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Partner with operations teams to integrate safety practices into daily workflows, seasonal snow operations, and enhancement projects.
  • Track and analyze safety metrics, prepare reports for leadership, and recommend improvements based on data trends.
  • Lead emergency preparedness planning for severe weather events and ensure readiness for high-risk seasonal activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in safety leadership roles, preferably in landscaping, construction, or similar industries.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards, DOT regulations, chemical safety, and risk management practices.
  • Strong communication and training skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Proven track record of reducing incidents and implementing effective safety programs.
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites and work in field environments as needed.
  • CSP, CHST, or similar safety certification preferred.
