About The Position

The Director of Safety is responsible for the strategic leadership, regulatory oversight, and operational integration of environmental, health, and occupational safety across multi-site manufacturing operations. This role owns enterprise safety performance, including TRIR and DART outcomes, and is accountable for driving sustained reductions in recordable incidents and lost-time events. This position requires advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations, enforcement processes, manufacturing risk controls, and safety management systems. The Director of Safety partners directly with senior leadership and plant operations to embed safety into production processes, capital projects, equipment design, maintenance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strong regulatory expertise, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to influence safety culture at all organizational levels.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive environmental, health, and occupational safety leadership experience within a multi-site manufacturing or heavy industrial environment
  • 5+ years leading safety professionals across multiple locations and shifts
  • Demonstrated record of sustained TRIR and DART reduction through structured safety initiatives and risk control implementation
  • Advanced working knowledge of OSHA regulations (29 CFR 1910) and regulatory enforcement processes
  • Proven experience managing OSHA inspections, citations, informal conferences, and abatement verification
  • Experience implementing and managing comprehensive programs related to: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Machine Guarding Confined Space Fall Protection Ergonomics Hazard Communication Powered Industrial Trucks
  • Experience leading environmental compliance and government reporting, including Tier II and Form R
  • Proficiency in safety management systems and technology platforms used to track incidents, audits, corrective actions, and safety metrics
  • Strong analytical capability with demonstrated ability to leverage data to drive operational decision-making
  • Ability to influence senior leadership and operational teams in balancing production demands with regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to clearly interpret complex regulatory requirements into operational action plans

  • Master's degree in related field preferred.
  • CSP, CIH, or equivalent professional safety certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute enterprise-wide environmental, health, and occupational safety strategy across multiple manufacturing sites
  • Establish standardized safety programs, policies, procedures, and performance metrics across all locations
  • Own safety performance outcomes, including TRIR and DART, and implement targeted strategies to reduce incident frequency and severity
  • Conduct advanced analysis of safety data, trends, and leading indicators to identify systemic risk and implement preventative controls
  • Lead OSHA inspections from opening conference through citation resolution, including abatement planning, documentation management, and regulatory response coordination
  • Serve as primary organizational liaison with OSHA and other federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and all applicable reporting requirements, including Tier II and Form R submissions
  • Oversee comprehensive incident investigations utilizing structured root cause methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone analysis) and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained
  • Direct job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and machine safeguarding assessments
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to integrate safety requirements into: Equipment design and machine guarding Lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures Confined space programs Powered industrial truck operations Fall protection systems Hazard communication and chemical management
  • Ensure safety requirements are embedded in capital projects, facility expansions, and new equipment installations
  • Lead internal audits and site-level safety reviews to ensure consistent compliance and program effectiveness
  • Develop and mentor multi-site safety professionals, ensuring consistent enforcement and application of safety standards
  • Establish accountability frameworks for plant leadership to reinforce safety ownership
  • Travel regularly between company sites to provide direct oversight and strategic alignment
