General Overview: The Safety Director is responsible for overseeing the administration of safety standards, standard operating procedures, and policies. This position directs all aspects of safety practices for Alpine Silica while carrying out their objectives both individually and through leading their team. Responsibilities: Safety oversight of all Alpine Silica plants across a multi-state territory through development, implementation, and maintaining Safety programs Exercises independent judgment and discretion to ensure compliance with safety procedures and company policies in performing all related assessments. Commitment to leading a best-in-class Safety department through continued education, collaboration with HSE leaders, and promoting learning environments for their team. Leads all Safety personnel including Safety Managers, Specialists, and other HSE employees across Alpine Silica. Monitors employee performance and counsels or has input affecting the counseling of employees on performance related issues. Monitor, interpret, and enforce all Safety policies and procedures to protect the interests of Alpine Silica and ensures key performance indicators are upheld for their department. Independently conducts safety meetings. Uses independent judgment and discretion to identify specific topics to be addressed at each meeting. Answers questions raised by employees and takes follow-up action, when necessary to resolve issues that arise during day-to-day operations and safety-related issues or occurrences. Evaluates issues raised by management and exercises independent judgment and discretion to determine proper protocol for implementing changes, when necessary, within the department. Act as company representative for safety related inquires during customer meetings. Regularly review policies, best practices, work instructions, and task trainings while making recommendations as needed. Responsible for enforcing all Operational Standards, SOPs and Policies within span of control. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: Degree in Occupational Safety Management, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience. 5 or more years experience in HSE, Safety, or similar leadership positions. 5 or more years experience in mining industry. Must be able to read, analyze and interpret MSHA, OSHA, ANSI and other related code of federal regulations (CFR). Experience with industry standard software including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. Mental and Physical Requirements: Must possess ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Sensitive to confidential information. Effective communication skills. Able to read, speak and write English. Able to work under stressful conditions at times. Position may be required to wear personal fall arrest systems and is subject to the limitations. Position may be subject to Medical Surveillance. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. While performing essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneed, crouch, crawl, hear, talk and smell. Working of irregular hours required. Travel, overnight and multiple stay is a requirement.
