This role ensures adherence to FDA, USDA, FSMA, and GFSI standards while driving continuous improvement in product integrity, operational safety, risk mitigation, and environmental performance. The Director of Safety, Quality Compliance partners closely with Production, Maintenance, Supply Chain, route sales, and Executive Leadership to embed a culture of food safety, regulatory excellence, and operational discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or three to five years’ minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2 years project management and/or leadership experience
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills in general safety and loss prevention.
  • Knowledge of food safety, OSHA, DOT regulations.
  • Microsoft proficiency including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity and able to perform job duties with minimal supervision on a timely basis.
  • Interface in a positive and constructive manner with parent companies, regulatory agencies, departments, consultants and other personnel.
  • Valid driver license and driving record within CCBCHC policy guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to develop and conduct effective training programs/sessions.
  • Knowledge of code compliance and legal requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Develop and implement accident prevention, loss-control systems and programs.
  • Work with local managers to conduct facility safety audits along with risk identification and evaluation activities.
  • Prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Monitor management of claims to ensure claim expenses are mitigated.
  • Identify company safety training needs; develop and coordinate safety training programs.
  • Write and revise company safety program documents as necessary.
  • Develop and implement required Hazard Communication program, including required Hazard Communication training.
  • Lead companywide Safety Committee activities.
  • Oversee the Food Safety & Quality Management System (FSQMS) including HACCP, HARPC, GMPs, SSOPs, and allergen management.
  • Ensure compliance with Coca-Cola, FDA, USDA (if applicable).
  • Lead internal and external audits, certification processes, and regulatory inspections.
  • Direct root-cause analysis (RCA), CAPA programs, and deviation management.
  • Maintain recall readiness programs and serve as Recall Coordinator if needed.
  • Lead risk assessments (JHAs/JSAs), safety observations, and near-miss reporting.
  • Implement and monitor programs such as Lockout/Tagout, confined space, ergonomics, machine guarding, and ammonia refrigeration safety (PSM/RMP if applicable).
  • Drive safety culture through training, leadership presence on the floor, and proactive hazard mitigation.
  • Oversee water use, wastewater discharge, CO2/ammonia emissions, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Manage environmental permits and reporting (Tier II, TRI, stormwater, SPCC).
  • Communicate with co-workers, management and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
  • Conform to all safety rules and use all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Conform with, abide by, and re-enforce all regulations, policies, work procedures, and processes.
  • Serve as link between senior management and employees in handling questions, interpreting and administering policy, and helping to resolve work-related concerns.
  • Build a high-performance, cross-functional QSE team aligned with operational and corporate goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership and build capability through coaching and development on the company’s overall business model, goals and objectives.
  • Work with management to ensure appropriate handling of personnel matters including hiring for open positions, evaluating performance, and taking appropriate actions in the event of under-performance.
  • Identify and mitigate potential personnel risks.
