About The Position

The Director of Revenue Cycle at Borland Groover is a senior operational leadership role responsible for executing and optimizing day‑to‑day revenue cycle operations across one of the largest gastroenterology practices in the Southeast. Reporting to the Executive Director of Revenue Cycle and Managed Care, this role focuses on operational excellence, performance improvement, and team leadership across all revenue cycle functions. This position is intentionally scoped as a level below the Executive Director, emphasizing execution, manager oversight, and continuous improvement rather than enterprise‑wide strategy or payer negotiations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 8-10 years of progressive revenue cycle leadership experience in physician practice management, hospitals or health systems.
  • Strong preference for gastroenterology or procedural-based specialties.
  • Demonstrated success improving A/R, denial rates, and cash collections.
  • Exhibits active listening and excellent comprehension skills. Clearly and concisely expresses thoughts and ideas in verbal or written form. Maintain an open line of communication with providers, patients, and managers to ensure patient needs are appropriately addressed. Selects and uses appropriate communication methods.
  • The ability to handle complex situations in the workplace and calmly develop creative solutions. Work through challenging situations and follow through to resolution. Anticipate patient needs and manage patient expectations of care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily revenue cycle operations including patient access, coding, billing, A/R, denials, and patient financial services.
  • Execute revenue cycle initiatives and priorities established by the Executive Director.
  • Ensure consistent workflows, SOPs, and operational discipline across all clinics and ASCs.
  • Identify operational risks, bottlenecks, and revenue leakage and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage revenue cycle KPIs including A/R days, A/R > 90 days, denial rates, clean claim rates, and cost to collect.
  • Partner with FP&A team to maintain dashboards and operational reporting.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and lead corrective action plans for underperformance.
  • Oversee denials management operations and prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with coding, compliance, and clinical teams to ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Support revenue integrity initiatives including audits, underpayment recovery, and modifier compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, state, federal and payer billing requirements.
  • Serve as an operational owner for revenue cycle systems (e.g., NextGen, Athena, etc.).
  • Support automation and workflow optimization initiatives led by the Executive Director.
  • Reduce manual processes and improve data accuracy through system enhancements.
  • Lead and develop revenue cycle managers and frontline leaders.
  • Establish performance expectations, accountability, and staff development plans.
  • Support workforce planning and productivity benchmarking using MGMA and HFMA standards.
