About The Position

The Director of Retail Projects is responsible for leading Warrenton Oil Company’s Retail Project Management function and managing the overall portfolio of retail projects, including holding project leaders accountable to defined objectives, timelines, success measures, and reporting cadence. This role ensures retail initiatives are prioritized and executed effectively – delivered on time, on budget, and with measurable business results such as profit improvement, operational efficiencies, risk reduction, and enhanced customer/store experience. This individual ensures project plans consider impact across the full system of retail operations and makes changes easier for store and office teams to absorb, as well as provides tools, coaching, and obstacle removal so cross-functional teams can execute consistently and at a higher standard of performance.

Requirements

  • Project portfolio management and prioritization skills (ROI, risk, and capacity-based decision making)
  • Ability to establish project governance, accountability, and reporting cadence
  • Change management mindset; able to design rollout plans that support field and office teams through change
  • Strong analytical mindset with a practical, execution-focused approach and data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ever-changing retail environment
  • Clear, confident communicator with both corporate and field teams
  • Adaptable, solutions-oriented, and comfortable with change
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in retail operations, project management, or multi-unit environments desired
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and vendors

Responsibilities

  • Project Management Function & Portfolio Governance
  • Maintain a scalable project management function for the Retail Division while elevating competency in project leader and team execution
  • Ensure all projects have clear goals, success measures, timelines, and accountable owners
  • Prioritize projects against ROI, risk, and organizational capacity; maintain a clear portfolio view
  • Hold project leaders accountable to delivering projects on time, on budget, and with intended outcomes
  • Support project leaders by removing obstacles, resolving issues, and improving project efficiency/effectiveness
  • Ensure regular, consistent reporting of project progress; provide weekly updates with measurable results
  • Review the Retail project portfolio on a regular cadence with WOCO Leadership to prioritize resources
  • Identify and lead opportunities to increase subject matter expertise and execution competencies across the Retail Division
  • Apply change management principles to rollout planning so store and office teams can absorb changes effectively
  • Ensure the project management process is simple and value-adding—not creating unnecessary work
  • Identify risks, troubleshooting issues, and adjust plans to keep projects on track
  • Retail Operations & Field Collaboration
  • Partner with store operations, merchandising, food service, facilities, IT, HR, and vendors to ensure seamless project execution
  • Serve as a key liaison between corporate teams and field leadership to ensure projects are practical, scalable, and operationally sound
  • Support pilot programs, gather field feedback, and refine initiatives before broader rollout

  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce costs, and improve store-level execution
  • Apply data and performance insights to recommend improvements and prioritize initiatives
  • Support innovative efforts that enhance customer experience, operational efficiency, and employee engagement
