The Program Director (PD) for Respiratory Care must provide effective leadership for the program including, but not limited to, responsibility for communication, ongoing program planning and assessment, and fiscal management. The PD's administrative responsibilities include: fiscal planning; program planning and development; ongoing review and analysis of all program activities; ensuring that, in all aspects, the program meets the requirements of the Standards. Educational responsibilities include continuous curriculum development and review as well as teaching. The PD must work with the DCE to ensure that clinical education for program students is coordinated with didactic and laboratory activities and is sufficient to meet program outcomes required by the Standards.

  • Organize and assure program effectiveness; conduct on-going program review and assessment; evaluate outcome measurements and effectiveness of the program; timely and periodic communication with officers of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) as needed.
  • Participate in continued development and budget planning; accept committee assignments, either departmental or university, and contribute to the welfare of the institution; assist in the recruitment of qualified students and faculty.
  • Ensure that non-clinical units of instruction are properly coordinated and that all students receive didactic and laboratory instruction sufficient to ensure adequate background for entry into practice as a respiratory therapist.
  • Maintain academic records on all students enrolled in the clinical phase of the Program; assure that appropriate and relevant student, faculty, and clinical agency evaluations and surveys are developed and utilized.
  • Provide leadership for respiratory care faculty and students by developing and participating in activities that promote the image and involvement of the Respiratory Care profession.
  • Conduct regular faculty meetings along with the communities of interest while maintaining documentation; evaluate all Respiratory Care faculty members on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree must be awarded by an institution that is accredited by USDE-recognized institutional accrediting body.
  • 4 years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  • 2 years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
  • Master's Degree must be awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting body.
  • 10 years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (5) years in clinical respiratory care.
  • 5 years' experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/preceptor for students of such programs.
