About The Position

The Director of Residence Life provides leadership and supervision for the operation of the residential housing department and staff. The director is responsible for the development and execution of the residential housing component to include staffing, training, programming, and room assignments. The director provides objective and decisive adjudication of student conduct cases that occur in the residence halls. The director supervises three full-time staff, eight resident directors, and fifty resident assistant student staff. The director plans, budgets, and implements the housing program to include training and staffing. The successful housing assignment plan and safe operation of the residential halls for residential students is a primary responsibility for the director. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or student personnel and one year of experience in housing administration
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and deal with a variety of situations and people
  • Demonstrate excellent computer skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record

  • 3-5 years of experience in housing administration

Responsibilities

  • Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose
  • Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans
  • Plan, budget, and implement a comprehensive program for the housing department
  • Serve as a senior member of the Vice President for Student Affairs staff to provide leadership in the areas of student rights and responsibilities, conflict management, educational programming, and crisis management
  • Recruit, select and train all housing staff and implement ongoing training
  • Assist the VPSA with the investigation and adjudication of conduct cases which occur in campus housing facilities
  • Adjudicate housing infractions that occur in the residence halls
  • Coordinate the opening and closing of residence halls and supervise effective check-in/check-out procedures
  • Coordinate interim housing arrangements for students approved to stay on campus during breaks
  • Ensure that all resident student account charges are accurate
  • Assist with the coordination of campus housing facilities by outside groups during summer months
  • Coordinate the intake/acknowledgement process for housing applications, deposits, and assignments
  • Provide occupancy status reports as needed by university
  • Monitor conditions of facilities and furnishings to include follow-up on maintenance reports and work requests
  • Review requests for exemptions to the housing policy
  • Determine and approve levels of access to residence hall through electronic lock system
  • Work with other offices on campus to coordinate programs and special events
  • Direct an annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the housing program
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance
