The Director of Residence Life and Housing (RLH) at Bridgewater State University is tasked with the comprehensive coordination of all aspects of the Residence Life and Housing program. This role is pivotal in ensuring that residential facilities are not only safe and well-maintained but also foster a living and learning environment that enhances student success and satisfaction while meeting occupancy goals. The Director collaborates closely with the Executive Director of Residence Life and Housing to establish the vision and direction for the department, aligning it with the institution's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This position requires a proactive approach to on-campus emergencies and necessitates working during both traditional and non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends. The Director is responsible for the direct supervision, training, development, and evaluation of the Associate Director and three Assistant Directors. A primary objective of this role is to create a cohesive and inclusive residential program that leverages diversity and social justice practices to promote student success. The Director will lead strategic planning and implementation of a high-quality living and learning environment based on student development theory and practice. This includes managing the annual housing budget, ensuring that diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging principles are integrated into all practices, and overseeing the selection and development of staff. In addition, the Director will coordinate occupancy management processes, conduct building assessments, and maintain relationships with off-campus vendors and contractors. The role also involves preparing reports and analyzing data to inform strategic decision-making, establishing relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring that the department's web presence is maintained and aligned with university goals. The Director will oversee marketing and information materials related to housing and ensure that programs support the academic, social, and personal development of resident students. Furthermore, the Director will manage a Residential Security team to ensure student safety and collaborate with other campus departments for various events and activities.
