Northern State University is seeking a student-centered, dynamic, and dedicated leader to serve as the Director of Residence Life and the Student Center. Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director will play a pivotal role in enhancing the student experience and fostering a vibrant, inclusive campus community. This is a unique opportunity to build upon South Dakota's top-rated residence halls, implement innovative housing technology, and contribute meaningfully to the execution of the Student Affairs Strategic Plan (2025-30). The successful candidate will help shape the future of student engagement, lead transformative initiatives, and support institutional growth through strategic leadership and collaboration.

  • Housing Programs: Ensure safe, comfortable, affordable, and appealing housing options for students living on campus. Manages summer camp and conference program.
  • Student Center Management: Serve as the building manager for the Student Center, fostering a vibrant "campus living room" that promotes engagement, community, services, and recreation in alignment with the University's mission.
  • Student Affairs Team: Collaborate as an essential member of the Student Affairs team, committed to providing high-quality care and support for students.
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration, Counseling, Public Administration, or a related field required.
  • Five or more years' experience working in a housing and residence life program.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in program development and management, with case management experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, supervision, and project management.
  • Program development through assessment, planning, and implementation including research, statistical analysis, program development, and program evaluation.
  • Ability to relate empathetically and effectively with a variety of people.
  • Excellent interpersonal/group communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful teams.
  • Commensurate with experience; $70,000 to $80,000 with state benefits.
