About The Position

The Director of Research & Development - Minerals and Nutrients at Balchem Corporation is responsible for leading a team of scientists and engineers in the development and optimization of new products and processes related to mineral chelates and nutraceutical ingredients. This role involves overseeing R&D activities, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives, and driving innovation to enhance human health. The Director plays a key role in managing the development process from initial research through to commercialization, while also promoting a culture of safety and accountability within the team.

Requirements

• BS in Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
• An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the chemical or materials industry in a technical leadership role.
• Proven success in leading teams to develop and launch new products and processes.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in team development and management.
• Excellent problem-solving and innovation skills.
• Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of scientists and engineers in R&D projects focused on mineral chelates and nutraceutical ingredients.
• Oversee R&D activities at the research laboratories and pilot facility in Ogden, Utah.
• Ensure alignment between project portfolios and commercial objectives in collaboration with business segment leaders.
• Manage the development process from bench scale through scale-up and commercialization.
• Conduct regular project review meetings and report on portfolio health.
• Promote a culture of safety and accountability within the R&D team.
• Build and lead a high-performing team, conducting performance reviews and setting development plans.
• Manage departmental budget, including personnel, equipment, and supplies.
• Provide high-level technical support for internal and external customers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to drive innovation and resolve product line challenges.
