As a key member of the UNC System Office - Finance Division, this position works directly with the Vice President for Capital Planning and Finance and collaboratively with the Chief Financial Officer and UNC System institutions to ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements and UNC policies and procedures including coordination with the State Property Office. This position is responsible for oversight of real property transactions systemwide, including acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and millennial campus transactions for the UNC System and its constituent institutions in support of the campus master plans and systemwide objectives. The position maintains the computerized capital asset management database and is responsible for analysis to support facilities needs assessments and future capital requests. The position is also responsible for the annual facilities condition and space utilization report and other reports associated with real property transactions and management. This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least three days per week onsite at the Dillon building in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

  • Bachelor's degree in real estate, business administration, urban planning, or a related field and a minimum 7 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of specialization and minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with the acquisition, disposition, leasing, and management of real estate, preferably for public higher education or state entities, and including public-private partnerships
  • Ability to understand and comply with relevant statutes, laws, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of property management, best practices, capital planning, and long-term financial forecasting
  • Ability to negotiate and execute real estate transactions
  • Familiarity with university, nonprofit, or government organizational structures and compliance requirements
  • Experience with space utilization analysis and campus planning
  • Demonstrated analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail as evidenced by application materials
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including written reports and visual presentations
  • The applicant must be physically able to travel to and visit sites to determine the characteristics and suitability of property for proposed real estate transactions.
  • Prefer individuals with prior experience with the University of North Carolina System or higher educational environment
  • Professional certification or licensure in real estate or property management (CCIM, CPM, RPA) is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of real estate and facilities functions, including transaction management, asset management, and strategic planning, preferably in higher education
  • Knowledge of real estate laws, development processes, and industry practices, preferably in North Carolina and higher education
  • Knowledge of State Property Office procedures, applicable sections of UNC System policy manual, and UNC System procedures, especially regarding real estate negotiations and contracts
  • Knowledge of the use of an enterprise-wide program management database system
  • Knowledge of higher education space planning and utilization standards
  • Knowledge of DocuSign or similar document processing system
