About The Position

The Director of Quality Management is responsible for planning and implementing the performance improvement program to meet the needs of the hospital. This role involves providing education to medical staff, hospital staff, and the Governing Body, facilitating performance improvement activities, and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities throughout the hospital. The Director acts as a resource person to the administrative team, department managers, and medical staff, performs clinical risk management functions, and assists department managers with preparation for medical staff committees. Additionally, the Director has oversight responsibility for all regulatory body surveys, such as JCAHO, State Licensing Review, and HCFA (CMS) Validation surveys, and maintains oversight responsibility for all performance improvement activities conducted throughout the hospital.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum three years' experience in Quality and/or Risk Management in a hospital setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, word-processing, and spreadsheet software.
  • Knowledge of current state, federal, and local laws and regulations governing employee healthcare needs.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, appropriate prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under stress and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to travel as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Professional Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement the performance improvement program to meet the needs of the hospital.
  • Facilitate performance improvement and CQI activities throughout the hospital.
  • Maintain awareness of changes in regulations and requirements by accrediting bodies.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, CNO, and administrative team.
  • Use database systems to document occurrences, medical staff review functions, and committee review actions.
  • Compile reports for committees and the administrative team.
  • Oversee preparation for review by regulatory agencies and assist department managers in maintaining appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good working relationships within and between departments.
  • Participate in risk management and safety activities.
  • Provide support and assistance to medical staff officers, committee chairpersons, and the Governing Body.
  • Utilize information from performance improvement activities to improve patient care processes.
  • Maintain employee safety as a focus of practice.
  • Use appropriate reporting mechanisms as required by state laws.
  • Compile patient data and prepare outcome analysis.
  • Provide educational resources to employees.
  • Serve as a clinical resource person to staff and physicians.
