About The Position

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Purchasing, Warehouse, and inventory control functions within the Canyons School District. This role ensures that all purchasing activities align with budgetary guidelines and the district's strategic plan. The Director will develop and implement purchasing policies, negotiate contracts, manage vendor relationships, and lead a team of purchasing professionals to enhance cost efficiency and vendor performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Five (5) years of responsible purchasing experience including bid preparation, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience in a managerial or executive role.
  • Proven experience in a senior purchasing or procurement role, with a track record of successful contract negotiations and supplier management.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive procurement strategy aligned with the district's financial and operational goals.
  • Lead and manage the expenditure of public funds to ensure transparency of public funds.
  • Oversee operational functions of logistics/warehousing, inventory control, and teacher resource/copy center functions of the District.
  • Act as the primary liaison with the School Board pertaining to purchasing awards and contracts.
  • Understand applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to business management.
  • Manage warehousing, inventory, and materials control.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Prepare and control budgets effectively.
  • Support schools and departments with timely and accurate procurement requests.
  • Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
  • Prepare bids, specifications, and related documents.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines.
  • Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.
