About The Position

Halff is seeking a highly skilled Director of Public Works to join our Public Works practice in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in delivering public works utilities and roadway design projects, an established network of municipal clients, and knowledge of established practices in regional clients’ rotation lists, on-calls and pre-qualification pools in the Austin area. This position will entail the leadership of multiple Public Works teams, training and mentorship of team leaders and civil engineering staff, and oversight of large/complex projects. A successful Director of Public Works will personally initiate and lead project pursuits and direct/mentor others to lead project pursuits that ultimately lead to contracts - driving sales, growth and other key metrics. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering degree
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in Texas, or transferable within 3 months preferred
  • At least 10 years of experience in public works utilities and roadway design
  • Demonstrable project wins as a key individual on the project team organizational chart
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Servant leader mentality with strong ability to train and mentor staff
  • Excel in project management, administration, and supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple offices and various disciplines
  • Positive attitude, self-directed and continuous learner
  • Established professional network of municipal clients and teaming partners
  • Ability to work in-person, on location with occasional limited travel

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a robust network of municipal clients and teaming partners
  • Identify potential projects within the region and initiate implementation strategies for successful awarding of new design contracts
  • Produce winning project proposals as lead professional/project manager
  • Develop and review project scopes and professional services fees
  • Supervise direct reports (Team Leaders)
  • Train and coach Team Leaders and Production staff
  • Oversee large scale, complex, multi-discipline projects
  • Work in a team environment with multiple offices and various disciplines
  • Drive sales growth, coach strong financial project performance, and monitor other key metrics
