About The Position

The Director of Professional Studies at SUNY Old Westbury is responsible for leading the development and operation of the School of Professional Studies. This role focuses on enhancing workforce development and adult education programs while fostering an inclusive environment. The Director will manage daily operations, engage in program development, and collaborate with various stakeholders to meet the needs of students and employers.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of four (4) years' administrative, managerial and supervisory experience at the level of academic department chair, director, or above.
  • Professional experience in adult literacy, workforce development, or continuing professional development.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, including community organizations and industry partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the unique needs of adult learners.

Nice To Haves

  • A Doctoral degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic plans for academic programs.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, or securing external funding.
  • Experience in leading or managing change within an academic setting.
  • Experience as an Instructional Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations, programming, and scheduling of the division.
  • Create a vision and direction for the School of Professional Studies to ensure standards of academic programming and excellence are aligned with SUNY Old Westbury's standards.
  • Enhance the school's focus on workforce development and adult education programs and credentials.
  • Promote the economic and social transformation of Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the Tri-State region.
  • Engage in program development and evaluation.
  • Oversee hiring and management of academic and non-academic personnel.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to meet workforce needs.
  • Participate in fundraising efforts for the School.
  • Manage resources for program offerings and professional development for faculty and staff.
