About The Position

The Director of Product Management – Life Insurance is responsible for end-to-end product strategy, product development and implementation, and lifecycle management of one or more of our life insurance product lines. This role provides strategic leadership across different functional areas to ensure our life insurance product offerings are competitive, compliant, and aligned with enterprise growth and profitability objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Life insurance industry, preferably in product management, product development or closely related roles
  • Knowledge of Life insurance industry, including key players (carriers and distribution channels), key drivers and key technology and regulatory environment; strong understanding of investment products, fund governance, SEC/FINRA requirements and insurance regulatory frameworks are preferred
  • Strong analytical skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend/take action on solutions
  • Excellent data analysis and database capabilities (Excel, MS Access, VBA); experience with coding and data visualization tools (for example, Power BI) is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple programs/projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Project management skills - ability to push projects over the finish line with sound planning and persistent execution; understand how to align resources, seek the input of key stakeholders, and manage others to achieve desired results
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics, Marketing, Business or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred; FSA or near fellowship of FSA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage life insurance products, such as Term, Whole Life, Index and Variable Universal Life (preferred).
  • Own the product strategy, roadmap, and prioritization for assigned life insurance product(s) or product line(s) across their full lifecycle, including new product development, enhancements, and repricing initiatives from concept through launch
  • Monitor competitive landscape, market trends and regulatory developments to formulate product and pricing strategy, as well as inform product enhancements
  • Define, document and prioritize product requirements, features, benefits and trad-offs in partnership with Actuarial/Pricing, Legal & Compliance, Technology and Operation
  • Ensure alignment with policy administration systems, illustration platforms, and digital capabilities
  • Partner with Actuarial and Finance on pricing, assumption setting and profitability targets
  • Own in-force product performance metrics, including persistency, rider/benefit utilization, profitability monitoring and experience improvement; recommend corrective actions when needed
  • Lead or act as SME for in-force initiatives such as building tools for policy performance tracking for customers and advisors
  • Serve as the product owner in a highly matrixed environment, influencing without direct authority
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of product managers and analysts
  • Act as thought partner to Senior Leadership on product solution strategy and execution
