About The Position

As Director of Product Design, you'll lead and inspire a growing team of designers within our Expansion team, focused on accelerating GlossGenius's ability to reach new markets, verticals, and users. We're at an inflection point, redefining what technology can do for entrepreneurs and the businesses they build. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering leadership, you'll set the vision and strategy across key growth areas including upmarket teams, commerce, and client acquisition, bringing deep AI fluency to the team, championing new ways of working, and ensuring AI is embedded into how we design, collaborate, and build. using AI to design smarter and move faster while connecting a portfolio of mission-driven, 0-to-1 squads into a cohesive, high-quality product vision. You'll elevate the craft of design, drive alignment around product direction, and ensure we deliver intuitive, elegant experiences that help small businesses grow. Beyond the work itself, you'll build a thriving design culture, developing talent, fostering collaboration, and championing design excellence across the organization. And as AI reshapes how products are built, you'll lead that charge too: contributing to GlossGenius's AI initiatives and cultivating a team where AI isn't an afterthought, it's how we work. This is a leadership role first: your success is measured by the strength of your team, the clarity of your vision, and the outcomes your designers drive. You must be commutable to our NYC headquarters and will operate in a hybrid environment. We default to being in-office 3-4 days per week with required attendance on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Requirements

8+ years of experience in Product Design/UX/UI, with at least 2+ years in a people management role
Proven ability to guide end-to-end product design and influence cross-functional partners, including executive leadership
Hands-on excellence with AI tools (Claude Code, v0, Figma) and a clear point of view on the role AI plays in the future of product
Genuine passion for empowering small business owners, with deep empathy for their needs
Comfortable navigating ambiguity, setting direction in complex product areas, and engaging externally (public speaking and community engagement a plus)

Responsibilities

Model AI-first design, using tools like Claude Code, v0, and Figma to prototype faster, think bigger, and raise the bar for what's possible
Partner on company-wide AI initiatives, ensuring design has a strong voice in shaping AI-powered experiences that are intuitive, trustworthy, and human-centered
Foster a culture of AI curiosity and experimentation, pushing your team to adopt emerging tools as part of their everyday workflow
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product designers across mission-driven squads spanning upmarket growth, new verticals, commerce, and client acquisition
Define and drive the design vision and strategy for Expansion in close partnership with Product and Engineering leadership
Ensure high-quality execution across the full design process — from research and ideation through prototyping, testing, and delivery
Champion customer empathy by driving research that surfaces insights and shapes product direction across the Expansion portfolio
Act as a visible advocate for design excellence across the company, influencing strategy and helping define where GlossGenius goes next
Work closely with the Head of Design as a right-hand partner, contributing to design strategy, team culture, and cross-functional alignment
