About The Position

The Director Privacy Operations plans and directs VCU Health System’s strategic goals for compliance with federal (OCR, CMS, etc.) and state requirements, and VCUHS policies across the clinical enterprise. The Director Privacy Operations administers the daily operations of the privacy program to include policy maintenance and development; monitoring of privacy activities (investigations, risk assessments, privacy reporting, and training); and management of privacy incidents. Additionally, this position is responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the overall privacy program.

Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience in healthcare privacy.
• Three (3) years of progressive leadership/management experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or closely related field from an accredited program.
• Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Seven (7) years of experience in healthcare privacy with previous experience in an academic health care setting.
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Policy, Law or closely related field from an accredited program.
• Five (5) years of progressive leadership/management experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct VCU Health System’s strategic goals for compliance with federal and state requirements.
• Administer daily operations of the privacy program including policy maintenance and development.
• Monitor privacy activities such as investigations, risk assessments, privacy reporting, and training.
• Manage privacy incidents and assess the effectiveness of the overall privacy program.
• Collaborate with the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer to align departmental goals with strategic initiatives.
• Handle day-to-day team operations independently.
• Provide independent and objective privacy program guidance to VCUHS clinical enterprise entities.
• Supervise, mentor, and serve as a role model for assigned staff.
• Conduct annual performance evaluations and handle staff disciplinary actions.
