Requirements

  • Proven experience launching major power overhead distribution MSAs.
  • Experience with Tech Services, UG, and OH distribution work is a PLUS.
  • SoCal business acumen (industry, contractors, competitors, customers).
  • 15 years or more experience in Utility construction and program work.
  • 10 years or more in operations/management capacity required.
  • BS in a related field is preferred or the equivalent in directly related experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of sales, development of successful business proposals, awarded and completed projects required.
  • Must have a proven track record of strong safety and project profitability results.
  • Exceptional ability to maintain and develop relationships within cross-functional departments, suppliers and management teams.
  • Extensive experience in managing resources in a matrixed organization.
  • Skill in using a broad range of communication methods (verbal, written, formal presentations) to shape and advance management initiatives, and build alliances and partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior management role and managing projects, ad hoc analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience leading an organization through a department implementation and integration or change process.
  • Ability to travel 20% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications or additional education in Construction Management, Contracts Management and/or Project Management is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior leadership and be directly responsible for safety, financial, customer, and operational goals for the assigned business units.
  • Report to the Vice President of Operations with the development of the strategic direction of the business units assigned to the position.
  • Establish and manage the goals and objectives for accomplishing projects and utility program work.
  • Ensure proper utilization of personnel and equipment.
  • Delegate functional activities to subordinates and establish supervisory schedules and responsibilities.
  • Host regular meetings with business unit leadership and staff to communicate goals and performance.
  • Participate in proposal and contract development, negotiations, and alliance meetings.
  • Evaluate bids for conformity with contract requirements and specifications and make recommendations.
  • Review bids in compliance with company requirements.
  • Assist with the development of performance and labor strategies to compete in new and existing markets.
  • Work with field leadership and labor relations, assisting with labor negotiations and grievance management for the business units.
  • Prepare project status reports and provide regular updates directly to senior management.
  • Ensure all company, customer, and project policies, procedure standards, safety programs, etc., are adhered to while delivering work or services.
  • Provide input and direction to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
  • Assess competency and development requirements for direct reports. Provide mentoring and skills transfer to key LOB management staff.
  • Perform annual performance evaluations.
  • Initiate disciplinary action, if required.
  • Actively demonstrate safety as H&M West’s number one value.
  • Communicate safety goals and plans to the Line of Business management for implementation.
  • Assure all necessary qualifications and certifications are current, by the employee, and by customer.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the LOB Safety Action Plan.
  • Communicate safety goals and plans to operational personnel for implementation.
  • Ensure safety is operationalized/integrated into all work, constantly driving to make sure that best practices are identified and shared.
  • Engage in market business development and sales activities, both individually and in conjunction with company personnel.
  • Identify potential demand for H&M West services and drive to meet the demand.
  • Manage relationships with existing customers, alliance partners, and leverage them to acquire potential new customers within the business units’ area.
  • Adhere to performance goals, operations reviews, and project reviews, including formal auditing processes such as project QA plans, PM requirements, pre-plans, project plans, and post-job reviews.
  • Assess equipment requirements for operations. Participate in annual equipment budget maintenance programs and disposition of assets.
  • Oversee financial forecasting and business plans for operations and prepare written reports for quarterly and annual business review meetings.
  • Continuously manage financial performance against set budgets/plans for operations.
  • Ensure delivery of project deliverables, negotiate change orders, and handle escalated billing and invoicing issues.
  • Lead others in managing fiscal accountability through the normal operational implementation of work or services.
  • Responsible for accuracy of H&M West financial reporting for operations.
  • Actively participate in the claims management process in partnership with the company claims managers and safety managers.
