About The Position

A large women’s and children’s service line in the Austin area is seeking an experienced Director of Postpartum to lead a high-volume Mother–Baby department. This role oversees a 97-bed postpartum and lactation service supported by more than 240 FTEs, including multiple postpartum managers, with plans to expand leadership due to growth. The Director is responsible for strategic direction, clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, staff development, and patient experience across postpartum services. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned Mother–Baby leader ready to oversee one of the region’s largest postpartum programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • Active RN license (Texas or multistate).
  • BLS certification.
  • Experience in labor & delivery, postpartum, or mother–baby nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience (Supervisor level or higher) within L&D or Postpartum.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for postpartum and lactation services, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based policies, procedures, and nursing standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and patient safety requirements.
  • Lead initiatives that advance quality outcomes, including variation reduction, throughput optimization, and care coordination.
  • Oversee department staffing, scheduling, competency management, and leadership development for multiple postpartum managers.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and ensure adequate clinical coverage across all patient care areas.
  • Monitor volume forecasts, patient flow, admission/discharge processes, and resource allocation.
  • Drive patient experience performance and implement strategies to achieve exceptional service outcomes.
  • Support financial performance through budget planning, cost control, and productivity management.
  • Model a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional growth across the care team.
