About The Position

The Director of Policy for the State of Wisconsin is responsible for developing and directing economic development policy initiatives. This role involves overseeing the analysis of enterprise data and public policy to guide decision-making, providing oversight on reports and research studies, and advising on program development and implementation. The Director will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the business climate in Wisconsin and ensure effective communication of complex policy issues.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Economics, Public Administration, Public Policy, or a related field, or comparable education/experience/training preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in economics, policy, statistics, public administration, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years previous management experience.
  • Experience in legislative analysis and state budget development desired.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in economic development theory and practice.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Leadership skills and ability to motivate others and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Research, writing, and communication skills required.
  • High level of knowledge of state and federal laws/regulations, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Program evaluation and program development expertise.
  • Proficiency in PC applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database management, and Windows software.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the development of WEDC-specific economic development initiatives and program policies.
  • Support the development, revision, and implementation of WEDC's program offerings and advise executive leadership on strategic initiatives and innovative economic development practices.
  • Support the development of state policy recommendations and proposals for WEDC biennial budget requests and other policy initiatives.
  • Analyze economic development trends to inform policy decisions and identify priority areas for program development.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for policy-related requests from other state agencies, providing expertise and guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for state laws, regulations, and programs to be revised or adopted to advance the Wisconsin business climate.
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to solicit input on existing and potential programs, policies, and legislative initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver clear policy communication strategies and presentations to ensure understanding of complex policy issues.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels and positions.
  • Lead the work of the Policy and Program Development Team.
