Director of Plant Engineering
About The Position
Join Good Samaritan University Hospital, a 537-bed teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center on Long Island’s South Shore, and be a part of a mission-driven organization that’s redefining healthcare through excellence, innovation, and compassionate care. We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Plant Engineering to lead all aspects of facility operations, engineering, maintenance, and capital improvement. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring safety, compliance, sustainability, and operational excellence across our hospital campus.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field
- 5+ years of leadership experience in healthcare engineering and plant operations
- Strong knowledge of hospital systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.)
- Project management experience with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
Nice To Haves
- Experience in energy efficiency, alternative fuels, and environmental sustainability preferred
- CHFM certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Lead plant operations, preventive maintenance, and in-house renovations across all hospital facilities and grounds
- Develop and implement short- and long-term engineering goals, policies, and cost-effective strategies
- Manage department budgets and optimize resource allocation
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory agencies (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA)
- Drive sustainability and lead execution of the hospital’s 2030 decarbonization roadmap
- Support capital development and modernization projects
- Foster a high-performance team culture focused on safety, quality, and innovation
