About The Position

The Director of Pharmacy at UCSF Health is responsible for overseeing the administrative, operational, and clinical activities of the pharmacy services across multiple campuses. This role involves managing staff, ensuring quality patient care, developing departmental policies, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. The Director will also engage in financial management, strategic planning, and staff development to enhance the pharmacy's effectiveness and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D) or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a licensed pharmacist in a Medical Center/Hospital Pharmacy.
  • Minimum of five years management experience or demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills in a Medical Center pharmacy.
  • Post graduate training in Pharmacy Practice or Hospital Administration, or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Pharmacist in the State of California within 6 months of hire.
  • Advanced knowledge and applied background in Pharmacy practice.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and technology to optimize medication use.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with a variety of personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Management experience as a director or assistant director level.
  • Compounding experience and knowledge in USP 797 and USP 800 regulations.
  • Experience in the use of robotics and technology in drug delivery systems.
  • Additional advanced degrees (i.e., M.B.A., MPH, or MHA).

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Department in interactions with Health System personnel and community groups.
  • Coordinate problem-solving efforts with patient care providers to assure standards for service and quality.
  • Monitor the departmental quality assurance program and facilitate responses to quality assurance issues.
  • Develop departmental policies and procedures consistent with Health System goals.
  • Meet regularly with department members to provide updates on activities and initiatives.
  • Administer personnel policies uniformly and manage employee relations effectively.
  • Establish departmental standards and ensure compliance among employees.
  • Develop and manage an annual operational and capital budget, monitoring expenditures for compliance.
  • Identify resource needs and operational problems, developing plans to address them.
  • Participate in Health System-wide cost containment activities.
