About The Position

The Director of Pharmacy – Medication Assistance and Medication Access provides strategic and operational leadership for pharmacy prior authorization, revenue integrity, and medication access initiatives across both pharmacy and medical benefit spaces. This role involves overseeing a large, growing team with direct and indirect reports. The director drives efforts to improve reimbursement outcomes by analyzing claim denials, identifying trends, and implementing solutions that enhance financial performance. Key responsibilities include optimizing workflows and standard operating procedures, developing performance metrics, approving high-cost medication purchasing, and supporting contracting and payment strategies. Additionally, the director leads programs that ensure patient access to medications through drug replacement and free drug programs, while partnering across teams to improve access to high-cost therapies, including oncology infusions, and strengthen overall financial and operational outcomes. This position operates on a hybrid schedule (3 days remote, 2 days on-site) from Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with no weekend or holiday expectations. Caregivers in this role must reside in Ohio or Florida and be within a commutable distance of a Cleveland Clinic location.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree: PharmD, Master of Science or Master of Business Administration (10 years in an equivalent role within a health system environment may substitute the advanced degree requirement).
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in the current state or within 90 days of hire.
  • Three years of management or supervisory experience with direct reports.

  • Participate in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budget, assuming leadership of drug expense portion.
  • Design systems to ensure the Pharmacy Department meets all existing standards.
  • Develop, implement, direct, and monitor pharmaceutical care services.
  • Design quality programs evaluating drug utilization and pharmacy services.
  • Evaluate efficiency and safety of pharmacy services.
  • Recommend programs to enhance performance while staying abreast of current trends.
