About The Position

The Director of Perioperative Services (D-PS) is responsible for overall functions of all clinical operations within the Perioperative units, including assigned specific programs and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BSN) in nursing required.
  • Master's degree in nursing preferred, or within 2 years of hire.
  • Five (5) years of Perioperative Services Management required, including Pre-op, Pacu, Intraop, Sterile Processing and Pre-admission testing in a 7 (or more) OR facility.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice required.
  • Knowledge of program development and administration required.
  • Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • CNOR certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in managing Endoscopy, ASC and Cardiac Cath Lab preferred.
  • Experience managing outpatient departments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight regarding nursing clinical practice including developing infrastructure and implementing effectiveness measures.
  • Provide administrative direction to management staff within areas of responsibility including supporting plan development, priority-setting, decision-making, and professional development as well as hiring and performance management.
  • Coordinate schedules, task assignments, and allocation of resources to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies.
  • Review and approve budgetary recommendations and prepare variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses.
  • Lead change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements, including implementation and communication.
  • Provide leadership of multiple departments including Pre-Admission testing, Operating Room, Pre-op, Post Recovery Room for procedural areas, and Sterile Processing.
  • Oversee operations of the perioperative services department including financial and staff management for the unit.
  • Develop community partnerships, contractual agreements and healthcare alliances that foster collaboration and alignment.
  • Partner with physician leaders on development and management of access to care for all surgical services and practices across all sites.
  • Assist the team in direct nursing services as needed during high volume times.
  • Greet all patients and their accompanying family members when applicable and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and executive leadership.
  • Utilize strong organizational skills and display effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise independent judgement and remain calm and professional in all situations.
