As a key member of the hotel’s executive team, the Director of People & Culture partners with the General Manager to shape and implement the property’s strategy, drive business results, and foster a culture of excellence. You will oversee all People & Culture operations—including recruitment, training, employee relations, compensation, and benefits—ensuring legal compliance and aligning practices with company standards. You will provide departments with the guidance, tools, and support needed to achieve their guest service and business goals while cultivating high-performing teams.

  • Develop and execute People & Culture departmental goals, driving overall department performance, effectiveness, and financial stewardship.
  • Lead and manage the People & Culture team, including interviewing, hiring, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and handling recognition and corrective actions.
  • Oversee full-cycle recruitment and onboarding processes, ensuring compliance with I-9 verification, legal requirements, and corporate standards.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, ensuring accurate enrollment, compliance with regulations, and timely resolution of benefit-related inquiries.
  • Provide expert guidance to leaders and team members on human resource policies, employment laws, compensation, benefits, and employee relations matters.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate standards, including I-9, EEOC, OSHA, FLSA, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, the Equal Pay Act, and state-specific regulations.
  • Partner with department leaders to maintain effective orientation processes and ensure new team members understand hotel standards, policies, and benefits.
  • Facilitate or oversee the delivery of company programs and required team member training.
  • Maintain strong communication throughout the property, including daily updates and support for property-wide meetings.
  • Guide leaders through progressive discipline, ensuring thorough documentation, consistency, and risk mitigation.
  • Oversee employee relations matters, anticipate issues, monitor workplace climate, and support resolution of concerns.
  • Provide oversight on Workers’ Compensation claims, ensuring proper care, timely claim closure, appropriate reserves, and ongoing safety education.
  • Support compensation and merit processes, ensuring decisions align with policy, budget, and performance expectations.
  • Identify opportunities for improving HR processes and implement new policies or procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Adapt to the cyclical nature of hospitality by working varied schedules as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in Human Resources Management preferred; SHRM or PHR certification strongly desired.
  • Five+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least three years in a Director-level role.
  • Hands-on experience managing Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, ERISA, NLRA, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of wage and salary administration, employment practices, benefits, and payroll.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, and guide teams.
  • Experience managing a high-volume, fast-paced operation with tight timelines.
  • Background in a similar hospitality or service-oriented environment preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or formal HR training.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
