The Director of Pastoral Care Services manages and directs all aspects of pastoral care across the healthcare system, including chaplain services, mission effectiveness, the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, and ethics committee activities. This role ensures spiritual support is aligned with the organization's mission and values, and meets the diverse needs of patients, staff, and the broader community. The Director establishes department goals and standards, oversees accreditation and compliance, and ensures high-quality spiritual care delivery.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, or a related field that meets ecclesiastical endorsement requirements within the individual's faith community
  • Accredited Associate Supervisor or Supervisor, ACPE, Inc. Board certification or eligibility for certification as a healthcare chaplain by APC or NACC
  • All credentials required within time frame required by facility policy
  • Minimum of one (1) year ministerial experience in a parish or institutional setting
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a Supervisor in Training, Associate Supervisor, or Supervisor in an accredited ACPE, Inc. center

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises Chaplain Services and Mission Effectiveness activities across the healthcare system
  • Ensures spiritual services meet the needs of all internal and external customers
  • Leads mission education and community partnership initiatives
  • Reviews departmental performance and initiates improvements to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures, including those for CPE students in line with ACPE, Inc. standards
  • Selects, orients, trains, and evaluates department staff, managing performance and recommending personnel actions
  • Oversees operations and planning for the accredited Clinical Pastoral Education program
  • Manages compliance and accreditation processes with ACPE, Inc
  • Maintains certification and fulfills continuing education and peer review requirements
  • Maintains departmental records, reports, and visitation statistics
  • Participates in administrative and assigned committee meetings
