About The Position

Provo City is hiring a Director of Parks and Recreation to provide executive direction and administration work with responsibility to plan, organize, lead, and direct all activities of the Parks and Recreation Department. This position will work closely with City Administration and the Municipal Council. The Director of Parks & Recreation will be an effective leader with a demonstrated history of success focused on collaboration and entrepreneurial management. Requirements

• Master’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field.
• Six (6) years of professional experience in a closely related field, four (4) years of which must be at a management level. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience [substituting each one year of post-secondary education/training for six months of experience].
• A valid, lawful Drivers License.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct all activities, programs, personnel, and strategies of the Parks & Recreation department.
• Establish a department vision and direct its execution.
• Assess the community’s parks and recreation needs and establish a variety of programs.
• Oversee the release of public announcements and activity promotions.
• Prepare a timely departmental budget and manage departmental expenditures.
• Oversee procurement of new equipment, including researching innovative procedures and equipment to advance the efficiency and ability of the department.
• Manage staffing within the department including selection, development, discipline, recognition, and retention.
• Represent the department and the City on various boards, groups, and committees.
