About The Position

The Director of Parking Services provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and long-range planning for all parking programs across Stony Brook University (SBU) and the Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH). This position ensures efficient, customer-focused management of parking assets serving over 50,000 students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. The Director collaborates with campus leadership, hospital administration, facilities management, and other stakeholders to support campus parking access and clinical operations. The Director of Parking will have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with problem solving skills to appropriately address customers' concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Five (5) years of full-time parking operations experience, or related experience.
  • Management and supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace to include database management.
  • Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Experience in parking garage operations and/or parking management.
  • Three (3) years of full-time management/supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing and/or directing Parking Service operations for a large, multi-site organization.
  • Experience developing parking plans.
  • Experience working with Transportation Demand Management software applications.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning & Leadership:
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term parking strategies that support university growth, hospital operational needs, and sustainability goals.
  • Assist in master planning for parking infrastructure, including capital project planning, financial modeling, and demand forecasting.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and mobility solutions (e.g. LPR, EV charging, micro-mobility).
  • Recommend quality/process improvements that enhances productivity and increases overall operational effectiveness and increases as well as customer satisfaction.
  • Lead and mentor operations staff, supervisors, enforcement officers, and administrative personnel.
  • Responsible for department compliance with staff documentation, including the drafting and issuing of performance programs, evaluations, counseling documents, discipline documents, position descriptions, and memorandums.
  • Operational Management:
  • Oversee operations of all parking facilities, including garages, surface lots, valet operations, shuttle services, and hospital patient/visitor parking programs.
  • Ensure parking resources meet hospital clinical requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and maintenance schedules.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee TDM programs that increase the use of alternative transportation methods. Communicate objectives, propose policy changes, and develop plans and programs that minimize traffic flow and parking demand on the campuses.
  • Oversee parking support for a wide variety of special events for Stony Brook campuses. Ensure that appropriate staff and/or contractor personnel are scheduled accordingly to provide the necessary support.
  • Financial & Administrative Oversight:
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, revenue projections, and rate structures.
  • Oversee permit sales, citation administration, appeals processes, and financial controls.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA regulations and policies.
  • Maintain statistical data and provide reporting for KPIs to senior leadership.
  • Develop RFPs for contractual services. Ensure that all contracts are administered correctly and adhere to contract requirements.
  • Customer Service & Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Serve as liaison for university departments and hospital leadership.
  • Communicate parking changes, construction impacts, and policy updates.
  • Ensure a patient-centered approach in hospital parking.
  • Ensure student/staff communication, involvement, feedback, and participation in all department areas via student projects, feedback, and/or advisory groups.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
