The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in coordinating and managing all operational and technical elements of stage production for performances and other events at the Webb Center. This position involves arranging staffing, lighting, sound, staging, hospitality, and other necessary items for performances, as well as overseeing inventories, repair, and maintenance of theatre equipment and the facility. The Operations Manager is also responsible for all information technology for the organization. Given the nature of the operations, a flexible work schedule is required, including night and weekend work. This position is the second in command at the Center and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with considerable latitude granted for independent judgment and initiative. The essential duties include overseeing theatre technical operations, facility management, and artist services. The Operations Manager ensures the operational readiness of all major technical systems, performs safety checks on equipment and facilities, and provides training and oversight of safe working practices. The role requires efficient and cost-effective completion of work, coordination of lighting, rigging, and sound systems, and direct management of technical staff including Lighting Engineers, Sound Engineers, Stagehands, and the Volunteer Coordinator/Artist Services Manager. The Operations Manager also recruits and trains technical staff, certifying individuals to operate specific equipment, and schedules and supervises the work of both regular and temporary workers during performances. In collaboration with the CEO, the Operations Manager is involved in budgeting for events, reading technical riders to ascertain production needs, and making arrangements for special staging, rental equipment, and artist parking. The position also requires liaising with touring production directors to ensure all pre-event preparations are completed to specification. The Operations Manager serves as the site manager during events and is responsible for maintaining production area records, performing maintenance and repair work for equipment and the facility, and ensuring the security of the building and equipment. Additionally, the role includes developing technical theatre curriculum and providing hands-on learning experiences for students.
