About The Position

We are seeking a proactive, intellectually curious Director of Operations with background in the defense industry to lead and optimize operational execution for a major Department of Defense (DoD) program. This high-impact role will oversee production, subcontractor performance, supply chain integrity, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the VP of Product, the Director will work cross-functionally to ensure operational efforts are aligned with mission-critical goals. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in dynamic environments, solves problems with initiative, and is driven by continuous improvement.

Requirements

Clearance: U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Education: Bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred)
Experience: 10+ years of operational leadership experience in defense, aerospace, or government contracting
Strong understanding of DoD production lifecycles and compliance standards (FAR, DFARS, ITAR, NIST 800-171)
Experience with outsourced manufacturing or subcontractor management
Exceptional intellectual curiosity and a proven self-starter mentality
Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

Experience supporting Army, Navy, Air Force, or intelligence community contracts
Familiarity with ruggedized or mission-critical defense hardware
ERP/MRP system experience in a manufacturing environment
Certifications in Lean and Six Sigma

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership - Manage and refine end-to-end operations for the production and delivery of defense-related systems and hardware
Subcontractor Oversight - Direct daily and strategic coordination with our Frederick, MD manufacturing partner, ensuring on-time, compliant, and cost-effective delivery
Compliance & Quality Assurance - Ensure adherence to all applicable government regulations and standards, including FAR/DFARS, ITAR, and NIST 800-171. Lead audit readiness and reporting efforts
Supply Chain & Logistics - Manage sourcing, inventory, procurement, and shipping schedules to support timely contract execution and delivery
Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with engineering, compliance, and program teams to translate requirements into executable operational plans
Process Optimization - Identify bottlenecks and implement lean strategies to improve efficiency, scalability, and cost control
Program Execution Support - Support government contract milestones, risk management, proposal planning, and performance reviews
Performance Monitoring - Define and report KPIs across all operational activities to ensure transparency and continuous improvement
