About The Position

The Director of Operations provides strategic leadership and hands-on operational oversight for the MSPCA-Angell Northeast Animal Shelter. The Director is responsible for providing direction on the vision, culture, and program development at Northeast. The Director of Operations will be the key person responsible for innovative animal welfare programs including our Adoption and Relocation Program. The Northeast Animal Shelter is home to the largest relocation program in New England - transporting thousands of cats and dogs to the adoption center every year to help overburdened adoption centers in other parts of the country. It is also the MSPCA’s busiest shelter – adopting out over 5,000 animals a year. The Director will collaborate with our Behavior, Outreach and Medical teams to ensure the well-being of animals while they are at the adoption center and work to address animal needs in the community

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • at least 5 years of management experience
  • at least 5 years of experience in non-profit or human services work
  • at least 3 years of shelter or animal welfare experience
  • demonstrated ability to encourage, develop and support a team of dedicated volunteers and staff
  • passion for animal welfare
  • Clear communication and direction through change and on the future vision of the adoption center

Responsibilities

  • Support staff in their individual roles to increase the positive impact of the organization on both animals and people.
  • Instill a welcoming and engaging culture for surrender and adoption processes, focused on meeting people with understanding and kindness
  • Collaborate within the four MSPCA adoption centers to help the largest number of animals possible in New England.
  • Support external partners and shelter organizations in an effort to expand relocation efforts and increase access to care for animals within the state of Massachusetts.
  • Work with foster and volunteer coordinators to develop strategies for recruitment and retention of volunteers to meet the day to day needs of the adoption center.
