About The Position

Brilla Schools seeks a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and results-focused leader to serve as Director of Operations Compliance for the Brilla Schools Network in the Bronx. The Director of Operations Compliance will own and oversee network-wide compliance systems and processes, ensuring Brilla meets all SUNY authorizer, NYSED, NYC DOE, Charter School Law, and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, while maintaining a strong culture of integrity, accountability, and operational excellence. This role is ideal for a highly organized, systems-oriented leader who can translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, sustainable processes; coach school-based leaders; and proactively mitigate compliance and safety risk across a growing charter school network. The Director of Operations Compliance reports to the Deputy Chief Operations Officer and partners closely with school leaders, operations, student services, data, finance, and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Own operationalization and execution of network-wide compliance across all Brilla schools and programs.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance calendar covering all NYSED, SUNY, NYC DOE, and federal reporting, certifications, audits, and submissions.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely completion of all compliance requirements across campuses.
  • Proactively detect and identify early warning signs of noncompliance (anomalies, gaps, missed filings).
  • Partner with senior leadership to align compliance priorities with network growth, facilities, and operational capacity.
  • Serve as the primary compliance lead for SUNY authorizer requirements and charter accountability.
  • Operationalize compliance with New York State Charter School Law, including governance, reporting, and operational mandates in collaboration with the Legal Director.
  • Ensure compliance with New York State Charter School reporting and operational mandates.
  • Oversee preparation, submission, and tracking of all required reports, certifications, and renewals.
  • Ensure full compliance with NYSED and NYC DOE regulations as directed by the Legal Director, including but not limited to: Student enrollment, attendance, and records Immunizations and health compliance Special education (IDEA), Section 504, and related services Multilingual Learner (MLL/ENL) requirements Title I, McKinney-Vento, and federal program compliance FERPA and student data privacy
  • Serve as a liaison with NYSED and NYC DOE on compliance matters as needed.
  • Monitor compliance with school safety laws and regulations, including: NYSED School Safety Plans Emergency response protocols and drills (fire, lockdown, shelter-in-place, evacuation) Building safety, occupancy, and emergency readiness requirements
  • Partner with Operations and Facilities teams to ensure safety plans are documented, updated, trained, and executed with fidelity.
  • Partner with Principals, Directors of Operations, and school leadership teams to ensure strong site-level compliance practices.
  • Conduct compliance reviews, internal audits, and spot checks to ensure fidelity and readiness.
  • Build compliance capacity across campuses through coaching and technical assistance.
  • Serve as system owner for compliance-related workflows and documentation systems (PowerSchool, ATS, compliance trackers, dashboards, shared drives).
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity related to enrollment, attendance, immunizations, services, safety, and reporting.
  • Partner with Data and Operations teams to resolve discrepancies and strengthen cross-system alignment.
  • Use data to monitor trends, identify risks, and inform leadership decisions.
  • Provide regular compliance updates, risk assessments, and readiness reports to direct supervisory and Legal Director.
  • Own and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all compliance and safety-related processes.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are documented, updated, trained, and consistently implemented across campuses.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to strengthen clarity, efficiency, and sustainability of compliance systems.
