About The Position

The Director of Nursing at Cottage Grove Post Acute is responsible for the overall management of the nursing department, ensuring high standards of resident care and compliance with nursing policies and procedures. This role involves recruiting, training, and supervising nursing staff, as well as coordinating pharmacy services and maintaining resident safety. The Director will also participate in quality assurance activities and state surveys, while providing direct patient care as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintain required continuing education/licensing.
  • Minimum of 7 years of nurse management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Point Click Care (PCC).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and professional documents.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages to practical situations.
  • Problem-solving skills to deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Overall management of the nursing department and staffing levels.
  • Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure resident safety and that all residents are treated with respect.
  • Develop and conduct in-services for clinical staff.
  • Recruit, hire, and train nursing staff.
  • Coordinate pharmacy services and manage medication disposal.
  • Act as a liaison between the facility, physicians, and family members.
  • Serve as a witness in litigation if necessary.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure excellent resident care.
  • Manage department budgeting and reporting.
  • Stay current on regulation changes and disseminate information appropriately.
  • Participate in QA, Utilization Review, and Patient Care conferences.
  • Assist with state surveys and follow-up activities.
  • Coordinate MDS and care planning.
  • Conduct employee appraisals and manage disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and resident information.
  • Provide direct resident/patient care as needed.
