About The Position

PURPOSE OF THE JOB To plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Plymouth Harbor Smith Care Center in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local guidelines and regulations, and as directed by the Sr. Vice President of Health Services, to ensure the highest degree of quality resident care.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Broad knowledge of geriatric nursing and demonstrated ability to apply necessary resident care and administrative skills and techniques.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to licensure.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in nursing; at least one year of nursing supervisory experience or administrative experience.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc. that are necessary for providing quality resident care and maintaining a sound operation.
  • Must be a detail-oriented person and able to perform duties with great accuracy on a daily basis.
  • Must have excellent personal skills, demonstrating the ability to conduct oneself in a non-controversial style; a style that inspires the respect of others and promotes a sense of trust in the individual’s competence.
  • Must have good communication skills; speaking, writing, and listening.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs with emphasis on Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word, with the ability to learn and use proprietary software as required.
  • Must have valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • Must have a current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.

  • Must possess fully functioning sense of sight/hearing or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately in order to do the job.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the workday (lifting, carrying, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting) using good body mechanics.
  • Must be able to lift/push up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to cope with the physical and emotional demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and direct the implementation of written policies and procedures in cooperation with the Smith Care Center and in compliance with Federal and State licensure guidelines.
  • Establish intra- and inter-departmental rapport.
  • Ensure that the professional standards of nursing practice are maintained by all nurses providing care.
  • Ensure that all personnel, residents, family members, and visitors, follow established policies and procedures.
  • Interpret Smith Care Center policies and procedures to personnel, residents, family members, visitors, etc., as indicated.
  • Review and/or revise policies and procedures at least annually and/or as indicated to ensure compliance with current regulations.
  • Ensure that residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, and property and civil rights are established and maintained as stated in the Residents Bill of Rights.
  • Maintain a public relations program that serves the best interests of the residents.
  • Maintain a working relationship with the medical profession and other health-related facilities and organizations.
  • Recruit, select, and orient competent personnel.
  • Review monthly financial statements and interpret information pertinent to the Smith Care Center in cooperation with the Sr. Vice President of Health Services.
  • Participate in preparing periodic budgets for approval by the Sr. Vice President of Health Services.
  • Keep abreast of economic conditions and make adjustments that will ensure the continued ability to provide quality care.
  • Represent the Smith Care Center at designated meetings.
  • Represent the Smith Care Center in dealings with other agencies, including governmental agencies.
  • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible persons.
  • Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., to keep abreast of current changes in the health care field, as well as to maintain a professional status.
  • Request equipment and supplies for the Smith Care Center, as needed.
  • Conduct performance appraisals in an effective and timely manner.
  • Make written and oral reports and recommendations to appropriate individuals or committees concerning the operation of the Smith Care Center.
  • Assess, evaluate, and implement appropriate recommendations from Smith Care Center committees.
  • Conduct and/or participate in in-service classes and training programs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an in-service training program that will ensure quality resident care.
  • Organize and standardize methods by which Smith Care Center objectives will be accomplished.
  • Maintain and adhere to Smith Care Center procedures and resident care policy manuals.
  • Coordinate resident care services.
  • Set or adapt policies for and maintain records of criteria for admission to services, care assignments, and case management.
  • Establish and conduct an ongoing quality assurance program which ensures: Assignment and management is appropriate, adequate, and consistent with the resident care plan, medical regimen, and resident needs.
  • Nursing and other services provided to the resident are coordinated, appropriate, adequate, and consistent with resident care plans and comply with Federal and State regulations.
  • All services and outcomes are completely and legibly documented, dated and signed in the clinical record; and Confidentiality of resident data is maintained.
  • Oversee and participate in the MDS process.
  • Approve Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Comply with Florida State statues regarding required continuing education credits.
  • Work safely; complying at all times with Plymouth Harbor safety standards.
  • Discharge properly such other responsibilities and duties as the Sr. Vice President of Health Services may direct.
