About The Position

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours) mission minded Director of Nursing at our Bedford Heights Surgical Health Center. Position Summary The Director of Nursing is a champion of the "In This Together" ethos at PPGOH, responsible for establishing, maintaining, developing, leading, and monitoring excellence in RN care. This role creates an equitable and supportive environment for patients while providing direct patient care according to established protocols, standardized workflows, and productivity goals. The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall management of nursing services provided in the surgery centers, licensed as Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (ASF) in the state of Ohio, and ensures a collaborative care team approach to operating the surgery centers alongside the practice manager. In addition to direct patient care responsibilities, this role ensures the procedural area flows efficiently and effectively according to PPGOH standards and guidelines and in compliance with all applicable regulatory bodies. The Director of Nursing is expected to divide time between clinical and administrative responsibilities as needed. The Director of Nursing is expected to divide time between clinical and administrative responsibilities, with approximately 60% of time dedicated to directing patient care and clinical oversight and 40% dedicated to administrative and operational leadership functions. Requirements

  • Current, active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Experience in surgical and recovery room nursing care
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain compliance with ODH, OSHA, CLIA, DEA, CMS, HIPAA, OBN, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Current CPR/BLS and/or ACLS certification or willingness to obtain per PPGOH policy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop clinical staff
  • Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a healthcare delivery team
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills appropriate to PPGOH clinical duties
  • Registered Nurse licensure required, commensurate with Ohio statute licensure requirements for practice capacity
  • Current Ohio RN license required

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years of clinical management experience
  • Experience managing controlled substances, drug inventory, and DEA compliance in a surgical setting
  • Familiarity with ambulatory surgical facility (ASF) regulatory requirements
  • Experience with performance management, scheduling, and staff development in a clinical environment
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle processes including charge capture, clinical documentation, and third-party reimbursement

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care and support to the care team to ensure efficient, high-quality, safe, and equitable care, including monitoring, medication administration, patient assessment, accurate charting in the electronic medical record, team communication, and emergency response
  • Counsels patients on all pregnancy outcome options
  • Provides pre and post abortion care, including IV starts, sedation administration, and recovery room care
  • Implements and monitors overall quality assurance activities, assessing, planning, and administering individualized patient care consistent with PPGOH policies, protocols, and standardized workflows
  • Continuously maintains current evidence-based knowledge of standards of care related to services provided in the surgery center
  • Manages daily drug inventory counts, reconciliation, and recordkeeping according to PPGOH policy and procedures
  • Determines appropriate medication PAR levels, monitors inventory, and orders daily use medications including narcotics for surgical centers
  • Manages the return and destruction of controlled substances as needed in collaboration with staff nurses, according to PPGOH policy, with appropriate recordkeeping
  • Completes quarterly provider-controlled substance eRx, analgesia and sedation, and MAB medication audits according to RQM timelines and protocols
  • Acts as the primary preceptor to new nursing staff and completes appropriate clinical privileging forms
  • Leads recruiting for RNs, including interviewing, hiring, and coordination of training
  • Maintains nursing staff schedule and approves or denies PTO requests, securing alternate coverage when staffing is low
  • Completes performance reviews at 30, 60, 90 days, bi-annually, and annually as scheduled
  • Reviews RN timesheets for accuracy and approval each pay period
  • Initiates and monitors performance improvement plans as appropriate
  • Tracks attendance and provides follow-up in accordance with the Time and Attendance Policy
  • Ensures all RN PayCom and CAL trainings are up to date
  • Maintains compliance with ODH, OSHA, CLIA, DEA, CMS, HIPAA, OBN, and State Board of Pharmacy procedures, policies, and regulations
  • Maintains CPR/BLS and/or ACLS certification per PPGOH policy
  • Reviews and completes the DON section of the Surgical Center Monthly RQM Report
  • Reviews surgical center complications log and initials completed documents as CMO designee
  • Ensures all ER/OR cart spreadsheets are completed timely and accurately
  • Maintains all nursing-related policies and procedures, updating as needed or as required by state law
  • Works in tandem with the Director of Abortion Services and Practice Managers to ensure safe and adequate nursing staff-to-patient ratios
  • Manages, reports, and communicates to leadership any medical emergency that occurs in the center in collaboration with the Practice Manager
  • Coordinates and facilitates routine ASF nursing team meetings to ensure open communication and collaboration between surgical nursing teams
  • Facilitates and coordinates mock scenarios in collaboration with the CMO
  • Participates in or leads post-emergency debriefs in the clinic
  • Collaborates with the DON at the sibling surgical site on an as-needed basis, including travel to the other site
  • Has knowledge of the revenue cycle through charge capture and pricing, health information management, clinical documentation, coding, and third-party reimbursement
  • Acts as a medical consultant to surgery center staff
  • Participates in staff meetings related to center management and provides staff training as needed
  • Shares on-call responsibilities between DONs at both sites, including weekends and holidays
  • Other duties as assigned.
