Requirements

  • Must be Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana
  • Must Possess a Bachelors degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Must have Five or more years experience working within Greencroft or a similar organization
  • Excellent communication skills, strong leadership skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Broad knowledge of applicable health and nursing home regulations
  • Ability to work with physicians, nurses, other health care providers, family members, and elders to ensure quality of care

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and monitor nursing service objectives, standard of nursing practice, clinical care, nursing procedures and policies and nursing service staffing patterns.
  • Recruit and select nursing staff.
  • Assure new nurses are oriented to correct Greencroft nursing practices.
  • Mentor new nurses for 90 days.
  • Assign and supervise nursing staff.
  • Perform performance appraisals of Nursing department employees by annual review date.
  • Discipline nursing employees when necessary.
  • Follow up on nurse practice and procedure problems and concerns.
  • Discipline as appropriate following Greencroft guidelines.
  • Participate in planning and budgeting for Nursing.
  • Maintain responsibility for nursing supplies, services and hours to assure nursing services are efficient and cost effective.
  • Ensure that nursing supplies are adequate and appropriate to meet the needs of residents.
  • Recommend the purchase of nursing equipment as well as maintenance of such equipment.
  • Ensure that the nursing philosophy and objectives are understood and maintained by the nursing staff.
  • Ensure that the nursing staff receive orientation, on-going training and educational development.
  • Establish a procedure to ensure that nursing personnel maintain valid and current licenses where applicable.
  • Direct regularly scheduled nursing staff meetings and conferences.
  • Ensure the initiation and development of the Resident Nursing Care Plan.
  • Ensure that all nursing staff attend and complete Geriatric University.
  • Work closely with MDS to assure appropriate documentation and care planning is in place and follow up on concerns.
  • Coordinate nursing service with other resident services in order to provide holistic care for residents.
  • Be available on an on-call basis.
  • Maintain regular awareness of resident conditions.
  • Ensure that medications are administered properly and that discontinued medications are properly returned or destroyed as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in programs of continued education.
  • Coordinate the Quality Assurance and Improvement Committee.
  • Participate in the Infection Control Subcommittee, and the Behavior Team meetings as needed to assure nursing involvement.
  • Participate in the Pharmaceutical Services Subcommittee.
  • Maintain responsibility for the Quality Improvement activities in healthcare assuring that departments initiatives are reported at committee meetings and each discipline is involved in Improvement activities.
  • Is responsible for building and maintaining a cohesive team environment.
  • Continually looking for process improvement opportunities.
  • Conducts timely performance reviews.
