About The Position

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations within an acute care hospital that is part of one of the five largest health systems in the United States. This executive nursing leadership role requires a clinically strong, visible leader with deep acute care experience, a collaborative leadership style, and a resolution-focused approach to operations, staffing, and patient care delivery. The Director of Nursing provides oversight for all nursing and patient care services and plays a critical role in quality improvement, workforce development, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This position is ideal for a nursing leader experienced in community hospital environments, regional health systems, and high-acuity inpatient settings.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license (state licensure required).
  • Current BLS certification upon hire; ability to maintain certification.
  • Current ACLS certification upon hire; ability to maintain certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required for all new hires effective January 11, 2021.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing administration, nurse management, or nursing leadership experience.
  • Experience leading nursing teams in a community hospital, rural hospital, or regional health system.
  • Strong experience in staff development, nurse retention, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, adapt to change, and lead through operational and clinical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on nursing leadership and daily operational oversight of inpatient nursing and clinical care services.
  • Lead and manage nursing operations within an acute care hospital environment, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, staffing models, and care delivery standards.
  • Partner with executive leadership, physicians, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams on hospital-wide decision making.
  • Drive quality assurance, performance improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
  • Serve as a solution-oriented, resolution-minded leader, addressing staffing challenges, workflow inefficiencies, and clinical issues.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, mentorship, and retention of nursing staff, including openness to new graduate nurses.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, state regulatory, and accreditation standards.
  • Provide coaching, leadership development, and performance management for nurse managers and frontline staff.
