About The Position

Responsible for the direction of patient care in the ambulatory care setting. Manages staff members in the Outpatient Surgery Department. Consults with staff and physicians on nursing problems and interpretation of Lakeside Surgery Center, LP policies to ensure patient needs are met. Management reflects the mission, ethics, and goals of Lakeside Surgery Center, LP, as well as the focus statement of the operating room department. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating the budget and staff development.

Requirements

  • Current State of California Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification, or basic EKG or Arrhythmia Identification certification.
  • Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide monthly Quality Assurance reports on various aspects of the surgery center, including infection control, complications, hospital admissions, patient complaints, and physician complaints.
  • Submit a monthly report on the review of the number of charts determined in the policies and procedures of the surgery center.
  • Review the Narcotics Log monthly.
  • Evaluate that the history, physical, and preoperative laboratory work are done properly on all patients undergoing surgery.
  • Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and policies are followed.
  • Make decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, diseases/surgical conditions, and care required.
  • Perform a head-to-toe preoperative assessment on all patients and reassess post-op as needed.
  • Know all areas of care specific to Outpatient Surgery.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Organize and manage nursing activities considering patients' needs and the needs of the facility and staff.
  • Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; address psychosocial needs.
  • Have knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration.
  • Formulate an individualized plan of care and evaluate for effectiveness.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs.
  • Know about cardiac monitoring and identify dysrhythmias.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and function under stressful situations.
  • Consult with other departments to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the operating room and other departments.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to the Medical Director, Administrator, and the administrative team.
  • Perform other duties as directed by management.
