Requirements

  • Requires the knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of (4) four years of college.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to (4) four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in Nursing Supervision.
  • Requires a valid Illinois License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Requires ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • 24-hour accountability for overall operation of nursing administration. This includes being available by phone for consultation as well as reporting to the facility during off hours for known or unknown circumstances.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least five (5) years of clinical experience in long term care, acute care, or geriatric care.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional supervisory experience assigning work, providing guidance to subordinates, recommending counseling and/or discipline following collective bargaining agreements, training staff, approving time off.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience recommending and implementing nursing policies and procedures relative to the latest trends and nursing standards.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience recommending and preparing nursing treatment plans for patients.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience providing training to paraprofessional and professional nursing staff.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience performing quality assurance assessments on nursing services and treatments provided to patients.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience communicating with internal and external stakeholders in oral and written form relative to the care and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Recommends programs for new policies and procedures for improving the health and welfare services for the veterans as well as, plans and recommends the implementation of programs and procedures to ensure that the standards for the facility meets the Department of Public Health, Veterans' Administration and Medicare requirements as they relate to Nursing Services.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Develops and directs the implementation of policies, rules and regulations of the units directed, ensuring that standards of care are maintained throughout the facility.
  • Monitors the development, revision and improvement of new policies, policy extensions and procedures for the facility for the nursing unit as set down by the Federal, State and private health care inspectors.
  • Develops and directs the implementation of policies, rules and regulations of patient care.
  • Makes inspections of the facility, as directed by the agency Director or facility Administrator, to ensure compliance with health and safety measures.
  • Accountability for 24 hours overall operation of Nursing Services, delegates as necessary.
  • Ensures that staffing plans are developed, implemented, and evaluated as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned within the scope of the duties enumerated above as necessary.
