About The Position

The Director of Nursing Services (DON) oversees all clinical operations within the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), ensuring high‑quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and strong clinical outcomes. This role is responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing the Nursing Department in alignment with state, federal, and facility standards. The DON provides strategic leadership to nursing staff, drives quality improvement initiatives, and ensures that resident care is delivered safely, efficiently, and compassionately. This position is ideal for an experienced RN leader with a strong background in SNF operations, survey readiness, staffing management, and clinical excellence.

Requirements

  • Current and valid state‑specific Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience as a Director of Nursing in a Skilled Nursing Facility
  • Ability to read, write, and speak the English language

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, direct, and coordinate nursing staff to ensure high‑quality resident care aligned with clinical standards
  • Ensure appropriate administration of medications, treatments, and nursing services per care plans and physician orders
  • Monitor and manage inventories of medications, supplies, and clinical equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing SNF operations
  • Adopt and implement Cantex Continuing Care Network’s Clinical Policies, Procedures, and Patient Care Management Systems
  • Lead recruitment, selection, and hiring of nursing personnel
  • Ensure timely annual evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions per personnel policies
  • Develop and maintain nursing staff schedules based on resident acuity and census needs
  • Update and maintain written policies and procedures governing the Nursing Department
  • Ensure facility compliance with health, fire, safety, and sanitation codes in accordance with Disaster and OSHA plans
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Quality Assurance Program
  • Serve on committees such as Patient Care, Pharmaceutical Services, Infection Control, Safety First, and Quality Assurance
  • Participate in pre‑admission assessments to determine appropriate placement and care needs
  • Ensure timely communication with physicians, families, and responsible parties regarding significant resident condition changes
  • Ensure all incidents and accidents are documented and reported per Cantex policies and state/federal regulations
  • Maintain 24/7 responsibility for nursing operations
  • Assume Administrator responsibilities in their absence
  • Enforce Cantex’s Abuse Prevention policies and ensure staff compliance
  • Function as a strong Team Leader and clinical role model
  • Maintain staffing levels in accordance with LEMs and review daily
  • Participate in facility marketing efforts and community engagement
  • Assess and approve admissions in coordination with the Administrator
  • Ensure resident and patient safety at all times
  • Perform other essential functions as assigned
