About The Position

Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center is an 820,000-square-foot facility that offers the latest medical programs, cutting-edge technology, and patient-focused care that includes 365 beds, 1,200+ employees and a 27-bed Emergency Room/Fast Track Unit. The Director of Nursing, Medical/Surgical Unit will be responsible for the day-to-day management and long-term planning of the Medical/Surgical unit including patient care, directing and developing staff, collaborating with physicians, and multidisciplinary professional staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required, Master’s degree preferred
  • New Jersey state RN license that is active and in good standing
  • A minimum of 3+ years of management experience within Medical/Surgical services required; Med/Surg experience within a hospital similar in size to ours preferred
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with proven track record of building and coaching successful teams
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, and maintain a positive attitude
  • Strong ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, Physicians, or others in a professional manner

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
  • Med/Surg experience within a hospital similar in size to ours preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and developing of employees within the Medical/Surgical unit
  • Act as the hospital liaison with all pre-hospital emergency medical services
  • Organize services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach throughout the continuum of emergency care
  • Assume responsibility for the clinical and financial performance of the assigned Medical/Surgical unit
  • Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the assigned Medical/Surgical unit
  • Ensure staffing coverage meets productivity standards for unit
  • Support and interpret policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospital
  • Facilitate engagement plans for the Medical/Surgical staff satisfaction
  • Monitor patient satisfaction scores and implement plans to improve them
  • Complete patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; following up on work results
  • Maintain nursing staff job results by coaching, counseling, and performance managing team members
  • Responsible for investigating patient, physician and team members complaints/concerns, and diligently work to resolve
  • Maintain required competencies for self and all team members within the unit
  • Perform any and all other duties as assigned
